What a Travel Advisor's Day Actually Looks Like | Goofy Getaways Podcast Episode 2.9

Ask someone what a Travel Advisor does all day, and you'll usually get a version of "plans vacations." Ask three actual advisors, and you'll get three completely different answers, because there's no single template for how this job gets done.

In this first of three minisodes pulled from Episode 2.8, Amy Blades opens the conversation by introducing three of our own Travel Advisors — Amanda Worsley, Noddea Skidmore, and Aaron Guest — and asking each of them to walk through an actual workday.‍ ‍

Three Advisors, Three Completely Different Days

Amanda, who's been with Goofy Getaways for over a decade, spends much of her time on the phone directly with Disney, Universal, and Delta Vacations, because she's found she learns more from a real conversation than an email chain ever gives her. Noddea, who is also our VP of Onboarding and Company Culture, fits her advisor work around a full-time day job running marketing for a major community theater, which means her most productive hours often fall between 10 p.m. and 1:30 a.m. Aaron, a former Walt Disney World and Universal Studios cast member now working full-time as a teacher, is checking for new Royal Caribbean promotions before 6 a.m., long before the school day starts.‍ ‍

None of that is a coincidence or a quirk. It's simply what happens when the job has to fit around three very different lives.

What "Planning and Preparation" Actually Involves

Where the three advisors' days really line up is in the work itself. Every trip starts with an initial consultation built around listening first: understanding what a client actually wants before building anything around it. From there it's itinerary planning, dining reservations, port adventures, and tracking every deadline that comes with a destination, whether that's a final payment, a Lightning Lane window, or paperwork for an all-inclusive abroad. For clients with special needs or medical considerations, there's an entire additional layer of research most people never see.

Amy is candid about why that initial phone call matters so much to her personally: it's where trust actually gets built. Some advisors prefer to handle everything by email, and that works fine for plenty of clients. But for Amy, a real conversation is almost always what turns a quote into a booking.

A Common Thread: Loving Disney Isn't the Same as Running a Business‍ ‍

Underneath the schedule differences, there's a theme that runs through all three advisors' stories: each of them started because people kept asking them for travel advice, not because they set out to build a business. Turning that into an actual career took something more than enthusiasm. It took systems, discipline, and a willingness to learn constantly, whether that meant calling vendors directly to understand a new promotion or spending a lunch hour catching up on emails instead of eating lunch.

That distinction, between loving something and building a business around it, is where the rest of this series picks up.

Goofy Getaways

Goofy Getaways began in 2013 as an idea sparked in a college classroom — a simple question turned into something bigger: What if travel planning felt just as special as the trip itself?

What started as a semester-long project quickly became a real agency, built on creativity, care, and a love for helping people experience unforgettable moments together. Over the years, through growth, change, and even a global pause on travel, that original vision has never shifted.

Today, Goofy Getaways is shaped by experience, expertise, and thousands of magical vacations — but at our core, we’re still driven by the same idea: great trips don’t just happen; they’re thoughtfully crafted.
