The Leader I'd Want to Work For
Amy Blades believes anyone looking at an agency deserves to know who stands behind it. So in this minisode, she puts her own leadership style on the table and invites two of her Travel Advisors to say whether it holds up. The answers are honest, a little emotional, and include one story about business cards at a bus station.
Meet the Advisors
A Safe Space for Very Different People
Amy tells every applicant the same thing from the first interview: there's a place in this world for politics, and it isn't inside Goofy Getaways. Advisors hold all kinds of views, and Lauren said that what holds them together is "a lot of mutual respect, a lot of love, and a lot of caring." Jess added that accountability runs both directions on this team. Amy's take is simple: if she's planning your trip, she doesn't care how you voted. Everyone deserves amazing memories.
Running your own business is part of that respect, too. Lauren joined a Disney-earmarked agency and found the freedom to book beyond it ("run, run, little horsey, run," as she put it). Jess never expected international travel to become her favorite thing to plan. Now she says she can fully embrace that this is her business.
Green Flags to Ask About
Amy's advice for anyone interviewing with an agency is to remember you're interviewing them as well. A good agency can explain its onboarding, training, systems, and ongoing supplier education before you sign. Ask who you can call when something goes wrong with a client. Ask whether you're allowed to talk to the other advisors, because Amy's very first agency didn't allow it, and she says that should have been her first warning sign.
What Lauren Taught Amy
Lauren found success fast, so fast that she felt overwhelmed and told Amy more than once that she couldn't keep going. Amy admits she started to feel frustrated, but she chose to slow down and got to know Lauren as a mom, a wife, a friend, and a business owner. It changed how she leads. She credits Kayla with reminding her that when someone keeps asking a question, it means something wasn't explained clearly enough. She still holds Lauren accountable, too, including the day she had to tell her she couldn't hand out business cards at the bus station.
