Independence Meets Real Support: What Makes an Agency Worth Staying With
Amy Blades heard from a lot of people after our first "So You Want to Be a Travel Advisor" episode, including other agency owners who appreciated how openly she let her team talk. So she brought two more advisors back to the table. This minisode covers the first part of that conversation: who this job is a hard fit for, and what keeps advisors at Goofy Getaways once they're in it.
In this Episode:
Meet the Advisors
Who This Job Isn't For
Amy kept this list short and honest. If you're getting into this for discounted travel, you'll be disappointed. If you aren't comfortable striking up conversations, or telling friends about your new business, it will be a hard road. And if you aren't willing to keep learning through trainings and fam trips, you'll fall behind.
Lauren explained what advisors really sell: "Disney sells itself. All of these destinations sell themselves." Most of her guests already know where they want to go. They come to her for help making that trip special for their family.
Your Business, With a Team Behind It
Every Goofy Getaways advisor is an independent contractor, and Amy considers it her job to give them everything they need to succeed. Jess described what that means in practice: training, Canva templates, dashboards, and a team she can ask when she can't figure something out in the CRM. Lauren said she talks to advisors from other agencies on her travels and comes back every time thinking hers is the best.
The most personal moment came when Amy talked about the agency's values of faith, family, inclusivity, and service excellence. Lauren got emotional remembering the calls where she told Amy, "I'm out," because she couldn't balance her family and a fast-growing business. Instead of telling her to keep booking, Amy helped her set boundaries. In Lauren's view, that's why burnout is so high across the industry and retention is so high at Goofy Getaways.
No Downlines, Ever
Amy closed this section firmly. Goofy Getaways doesn't run on recruitment, and nobody earns more by bringing people in under them. Advisors are paid after their clients travel, and the agency doesn't get paid until its advisors have been. Her view is that when growth depends on a downline, the focus drifts away from the clients and the memories you're helping them make.
