Epic Universe: A Mind-Blowing, Magic-Filled, Pizza-Scented Adventure

I Didn’t See This Coming…

If you had told me that Epic Universe would become one of my favorite places to visit, I would have said, “Absolutely no way.” While I’ve always loved the theming that Universal Studios brings to the theme park world, I’m the person who skips most of the rides thanks to my not-so-thrill-friendly stomach. That means I spend most of my park time soaking up the atmosphere, exploring the details, and taste-testing my way through the menus.

My happy place has always been Hogsmeade and Diagon Alley. There’s just something about the magic of the Wizarding World that keeps me coming back—it’s like being part of something just out of reach, and I can never get enough of it.

First Impressions: Celestial Park

At first, my interest in Epic Universe was simply because it was new. I figured it would be exciting and different—and maybe a total game changer for theme parks.

Spoiler alert: it is.
But what surprised me? I fell completely in love with this park the second I walked in.

Celestial Park is hands down the most beautiful entrance I’ve ever experienced. It’s bright, clean, and welcoming—with stunning landscaping and this gorgeous sense of space and serenity. Walking through Chronos Tower, you’re greeted by fountains that dance and shimmer, setting the tone for what’s to come. And the portal concept? Genius. Instead of traditional lands connected by walkways, you step through themed portals that transport you into entirely different worlds. Universal absolutely nailed it.

The Foodie in Me Must Shout Out...

Let’s take a moment to talk about the food—because WOW. Two standouts that deserve their own spotlight:

  • The Pizza Moon: Theming straight out of the 1902 film A Trip to the Moon, with a giant moon face, retro-futuristic vibes, and best of all—air conditioning. What I loved most? You don’t get your food until you have a table. No more wandering around with a tray looking for a seat! And yes, the pizza was chef’s kiss—we tried several and didn’t meet a bad slice.

  • Oak & Star Tavern: More on this in the portal section, but just know you’ll want to stop here, especially if cozy, hearty meals are your thing.

Step Into the Portals

Dark Universe

I didn’t expect to love this land. I’m not a horror fan, and I assumed I’d admire the theming and move along. Instead? I was hooked from the moment I stepped through that spooky, fog-filled portal.

Welcome to Darkmoor Village, home of the Dark Universe, where monsters roam, and every cracked stone street is filled with eerie energy and cinematic detail. The theming is absolutely top-notch—like stepping into a gothic legend.

Must-Do: Monsters Unchained

This ride was epic—massive characters, incredible sound, intense storytelling, and stunning effects. It’s a top-tier attraction and a total game changer.

Queue Praise

Universal is making queues part of the experience now, and I’m here for it. You don’t just wait—you explore.

Other Notes:

We also rode Curse of the Werewolf—and I’ll be honest: that 60 seconds was enough for me. It’s intense, it's known for spinning (which we got lucky and avoided), but it’s a one-and-done for me.

Super Nintendo World

Power-Up Band? Activated.
Childhood nostalgia? Triggered.

This land is pure joy. You’re dropped right into the Mushroom Kingdom, surrounded by bright colors, pixel-perfect details, and non-stop action.

Headliner: Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge

It’s a fast-paced, multi-sensory experience that combines a physical track with augmented reality. One minute you're steering, the next you’re throwing shells. It’s chaotic—in the best way.

Yoshi’s Adventure

Slower-paced and adorable, this scenic ride gives you great views of the land while riding your favorite dino pal.

Dining: Toadstool Café

Chef Toad outdid himself. From mushroom soup to Fire Flower spaghetti, every dish is a playful nod to the games—and incredibly Instagrammable.

Isle of Berk

Cue the dragon roar—this land is stunning. Based on How to Train Your Dragon, Isle of Berk combines jaw-dropping visuals with high-flying adventure.

Must-Ride: Hiccup’s Dragon Riders

Soar through the skies with Toothless in a thrilling coaster that feels straight out of the movie.

Family Fun: Dragon Training Camp

A playful, water-based ride perfect for younger visitors (or those needing a cooldown).

Food Stop: Mead Hall

Feast like a Viking on roasted meats, root veggies, and Nordic-style desserts—all in a rustic setting that feels both hearty and magical. Tankards of (non-alcoholic) drinks included.

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Ministry of Magic

This land is moody, mysterious, and magical in a totally different way than Hogsmeade or Diagon Alley. Step into 1920s Paris meets the inner workings of the British Ministry of Magic, and be prepared to be wowed.

Main Attraction: Battle of the Ministry

A next-gen dark ride that blends practical sets, stunning visuals, and heart-racing moments. You’ll feel like you’re truly part of a wizarding rebellion.

Interactive Wands

This land is FULL of spell-casting moments. With your wand, you can:

  • Send memos flying

  • Unlock enchanted doors

  • Bring statues to life

  • Trigger surprise water effects

It’s little touches like this that make the entire land feel truly alive.

Dining: Cafe L’air de la Sirene

A gorgeously moody café inspired by the traveling dark arts circus. Think French wizard cuisine, magical pastries, and the prettiest butterbeer you've ever seen.
