Why Park Hopper at Disneyland Is More Valuable Than at Walt Disney World

Park Hopper tickets are add-ons to base tickets that allow guests to visit more than one park in a day. They are available at both Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort. Choosing whether to add these to your base ticket depends on your travel style and whether it fits into your family’s planned itinerary.

At Walt Disney World, having Park Hopper tickets allows you to spend time in the park of your choice during the day and gives you the flexibility to eat dinner at your favorite restaurant in a different park. It also lets you move to another park if the one you’re at is getting too crowded. If your travel style is like mine and my son’s, with your Park Hopper ticket you can stay in one of the parks until it closes and then “hop” to a different park that is open later to maximize your time.

The downside to Park Hopper tickets at the Walt Disney World Resort is the time that it takes to get from one park to another using the complimentary transportation. This is because the resorts and parks at Walt Disney World Resort are very spread out. Navigating the different transportation choices available also requires more planning and time management, especially if you are trying to be on time for a dining reservation at a different resort or park. For some travel groups whose goal is relaxation and having things be stress-free, Park Hopper tickets can translate to more stress once you factor in planning how to get from one park to another and the time it takes for transportation.

Park Hopper tickets at Disneyland are much different than at Walt Disney World. Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure are separated by a promenade area between the two parks. It is very easy to walk from one park to the other, so adding a Park Hopper ticket adds flexibility to your day without the need to plan for transportation.

You can start your day in Disneyland riding rides and watching a parade then you can “hop” over to Disney’s California Adventure to sit in a quiet shaded pathway sipping your favorite beverage and watching the rafts drifting down a waterfall. Then you can grab a meal at the Lamplight Lounge and still return to Disneyland in time to watch the nighttime parade.

The same stress that can sometimes come with Park Hopper tickets at Walt Disney World Resort doesn’t happen at Disneyland. Adding these to the base tickets will give your travel party more flexibility no matter what your travel style is.
