What You Need to Know Before Using a Scooter at Disneyland

While on my recent trip to Disneyland I realized I’d need a scooter to make the most of my time in the parks. I decided to rent from a third-party company I found online because their prices were the most economical — and every bit of savings helps when you’re planning a Disney vacation!

However, I quickly learned there’s an important detail to know if you’re staying at a Disneyland Resort Hotel (like the Disneyland Hotel, Disney’s Grand Californian, or Pixar Place Hotel). These hotels have an exclusive partnership with ScooterBug, which means:

  • They’ll only handle deliveries, pickups, and charging at bell services for Scooter Bug rentals.

  • If you rent from another company, you’ll need to meet the delivery driver in person out front when your scooter is dropped off and again when it’s picked up.

  • You’re also responsible for charging the scooter yourself in your hotel room each night.

It wasn’t a big deal for me — just something I hadn’t realized ahead of time. I was happy with the scooter I rented and the price I paid, but if convenience is your top priority, booking directly with ScooterBug might be the smoother option.

Using the Scooter Inside Disneyland and California Adventure

Once I was inside the parks, the experience was wonderful. Disneyland is incredibly scooter-friendly! Most queue lines are accessible, which meant I could stay on my scooter through the majority of attractions.

When a ride required me to transfer, Cast Members were incredibly kind and efficient. They directed me to a designated area to park my scooter, and in many cases, they moved it for me so it was waiting right where I exited the ride. It made the experience seamless and stress-free.

Tips for Future Travelers

If you’re considering renting a scooter for your Disneyland trip, here are a few things I learned:

  1. Have your travel consultant check your hotel’s scooter policy before you book. If you’re staying on-property, ScooterBug is the only company Disneyland works directly with.

  2. Bring your charger with you to the parks, if you need to charge up during the day there are outlets you can use on the little guest services buildings located in Downtown Disney between the two park entrances.

  3. Plan for delivery logistics if using a third-party company — schedule drop-off and pick-up times that work with your arrival and departure.

  4. Don’t hesitate to ask Cast Members for help. They’re trained to make sure guests using mobility devices have a smooth and magical experience.

Final Thoughts

Overall, my scooter rental made a huge difference in my trip. I was able to fully enjoy the magic of Disneyland without worrying about fatigue or long walking distances. The parks were extremely accommodating, and with just a little planning, renting a scooter — whether from ScooterBug or a third-party company — can make your Disney experience more comfortable, inclusive, and fun.
