Golfing at Walt Disney World: The Ultimate Win-Win for families with golf lovers
It all started when my husband casually mentioned he wanted a golf getaway. My ears perked up immediately because I knew exactly how to turn that into another Disney vacation. And honestly? It turned out to be one of the best trips we’ve taken.
If you’re a golf lover (or traveling with one), Walt Disney World offers something pretty magical: a way to enjoy world-class golf and a Disney family vacation without feeling like you’re sacrificing either.
And then there’s the bigger picture…
This kind of trip lets everyone win. Golfers get dedicated course time while families still get full Disney park days. And you all reconnect later for meals, pools, and quality time together. As my husband perfectly summed it up: “It’s about bringing families together by doing things apart.”
Disney does golf the same way they do everything else: thoughtfully, efficiently, and with just enough magic to make it special.
Booking tee times is incredibly easy whether you do it online or by phone. When my husband’s playing partner had to cancel, the staff quickly accommodated him as a single player without any hassle. That level of flexibility sets the tone right away.
When booking, timing matters more than you might think. Early tee times tend to be more expensive but offer cooler temperatures. Midday rounds are cheaper, but you’re there during the hottest time of day. Twilight golf gives you the best value when it comes to price but not a full 18 holes. Twilight rounds allow you to start on Hole 1, and you simply play through the front nine as far as daylight allows. And yes, Disney gently reminds you to keep up the pace of play.
Walt Disney World offers three 18-hole golf courses and one 9-hole walking course.
This trip my husband played at two of the three 18 hole golf courses: Disney’s Lake Buena Vista Golf Course and Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course.
Disney’s Lake Buena Vista Golf Course
Disney’s Lake Buena Vista Golf Course is the perfect introduction to Disney golf. Located near Disney Springs, Old Key West, and Saratoga Springs, it’s easy to find and beautifully maintained. From the moment you arrive, everything runs smoothly with clear signage and gated entry (you’ll need an ID and tee time), bag drop service if you bring your own clubs. And high-quality rental clubs are available (TaylorMade to be exact).
Great practice facilities are ready to go once you arrive. One standout? The driving range features an island green, which makes warming up feel like an experience not just a routine.
Pro Tip: Don’t Skip Breakfast! There’s a small window behind the clubhouse called Chip & Dale’s Cafe that serves breakfast burritos. They are delicious. They are also apparently very appealing to local wildlife. Do not under any circumstances leave your burrito unattended. (The crows will win.)
Lake Buena Vista is a classic resort-style course. Tips from my husband: keep it in the fairway and you’ll score well. Miss it, and you might find yourself near a resort building (yes, really). Highlights include a par-3 island green on Hole 7, scenic waterways and views and boats passing by between resorts and Disney Springs. It’s relaxed but still challenging, with plenty of sand, trees, and water to keep things interesting.
Note: This course is scheduled for renovation from May 4, 2026 through early fall 2026.
Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course
Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course offers a slightly more elevated experience and a bit of Disney golf history. This course hosted the Walt Disney World Golf Classic for decades and even saw Tiger Woods win here early in his career.
Magnolia shares a clubhouse with Disney’s Palm Golf Course and Disney’s Oak Trail Golf Course (a 9-hole walking course). Right away, it feels a little more upscale in both design and layout.
This course blends golf with Disney magic in subtle, fun ways such as a Mickey-shaped sand trap on Hole 6, creative hole names like “The Mousetrap” and “The Backside of Water” and inspirational quotes from Walt Disney or famous golfers placed throughout the course. (Those quotes may hit differently depending on your score that day.)
Holes 14–17 are known as the Grumpy’s Gauntlet-and it’s appropriately named. According to my husband, the front 9 lulls you into confidence while the final stretch humbles you quickly. If you’re aiming for a low score he suggests you do it early.
Magnolia stands out for it’s massive practice green, beautiful course design, smooth course operations and wildlife you won’t typically see on Midwest courses where we are from. Disney calls it “the happiest place on turf.” Like any golf course… that depends entirely on your score.
One of the highlights of Disney golf? The people. My husband played alongside fathers and sons, grandparents and grandkids, couples and a talented 17-year-old whose mom happily rode along. There’s something about Disney that naturally brings people together—even on the golf course.
In the 5 days we spent at Walt Disney World, my husband golfed 3 mornings while my daughter and I did park days. On one day, he finished early (“rope dropped” the course!) and was back by 12:30 to join us at the pool. No one felt like they were missing out.
Instead, he got dedicated golf time we got our Disney park days, and we still had plenty of family time together.
If you’ve ever tried to balance a golf trip with a family vacation, you know it’s not always easy. But Walt Disney World makes it work beautifully. For the golfer in the family, this is the ultimate compromise that doesn’t feel like a compromise at all. You get championship-level courses, seamless planning, and just enough Disney magic to make it memorable.
And at the end of the day, everyone gets exactly the vacation they wanted.
