Fun family activities at Disney – EPCOT Kidcot Fun Spots
Did you know there is a place in EPCOT where you can learn how to say and write “welcome” in 11 different languages? While EPCOT is usually known for its global cuisine, futuristic innovations, and thrilling attractions, there is a hidden gem where kids and kids at heart can learn about the 11 countries located around World Showcase.
The EPCOT Kidcot Fun Spots are interactive stations, located in each of the World Showcase pavilions. They can be a little hard to find but any cast member will be able to direct you to their location. Each of these stations include “cultural representatives” from their respective countries and their role is to help children learn something about their home country. While we often think of rides and attractions when we think of Disney, this is a great way to include cultural learning experiences in your family vacation.
These cultural representatives are there to answer any questions that your children may have about their homeland. In my recent visit to a few of these spots, I learned that one of the most popular questions they are asked is “what kind of food do you eat in your country?" This question is frequently accompanied by “do you have McDonalds in your country? Kids also want to know how they dress and what sports they play. Instead of reading about new countries in a text book, they are meeting representatives directly from the countries. That personal connection makes a lasting impact.
Guests can purchase an official EPCOT passport book before they start their journey. The reps in each country will place a special stamp in the passport book to show that the guest has visited that country. They will also provide special stamps for the children to place in the book themselves. My own children, now in their 40’s, still have their completed passport books from one of our visits over 20 years ago. Additionally, the cultural rep will write a special message to your child in their native language and of course, they will provide the English interpretation of what they have written.
In addition to the passport book, each Kidcot Fun Spot offers simple but engaging activities. These include things like coloring designs inspired by local culture, decorating postcards, learning to write their names in another language, and discovering fun cultural facts.
One of the best parts? Kidcot Fun Spots are included with park admission. In a destination known for add-ons and upgrades, this experience costs nothing extra but often becomes one of the most cherished memories. Kids leave with a personalized souvenir that reflects “their journey around the world.”
So, the next time you visit EPCOT with your children, make sure to take some time to check out the Kidcot Fun Spots. You will not be sorry that you did, and your children will have an amazing cultural, educational experience.
