Advisor Spotlight - Amy Fisher
Every Goofy Getaways trip is planned by a real person — and this month, we want you to get to know one of ours. Amy Fisher has been part of the Goofy Getaways team since 2018, wearing a lot of hats along the way, but always keeping one foot planted as a travel advisor for her own clients. We sat down with Amy to talk about her path into travel planning, her RunDisney obsession, and the advice she gives every traveler who asks.
Tell Us a Little About Yourself
My name is Amy Fisher — aka "the other Amy." I've been with Goofy Getaways since 2018 and have held a variety of roles while always maintaining my role as a travel advisor for my wonderful clients.
I live in Michigan and have lived in the same 30-mile radius my entire life, but I love to travel. I hold a master's degree in Exercise Physiology and previously worked full-time in fitness — I still teach fitness classes and training part-time.
Fitness was part of what drove me to Disney. I quickly fell in love with RunDisney after a "one-time" trip with my best friend, and I've now completed dozens of race weekends.
I've been married for over 13 years, and we have 2 dogs and 1 human child we affectionately call "Fish." We're excited to travel the world together as a family.
What Types of Trips Do You Specialize In?
I specialize in theme parks — Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, Disneyland, Universal Studios Hollywood, and SeaWorld. I've visited all of these parks on multiple occasions, during various seasons, and love helping guests navigate the parks with their travel party, whether they're traveling solo or with a big multi-generational family group.
What Made You Decide to Become a Travel Advisor?
I loved working in the fitness industry, but the hours were a challenge. As my husband and I were trying to grow our family, we had some serious conversations about what we'd want to change if a child joined our family — and the biggest thing was that I wanted to be present and the main caregiver for our child. That wasn't realistic in my field at the time, so I started looking at new jobs and roles that might give me that flexibility.
I'd always loved traveling, and I'd fallen in love with Disney as an adult when I found Goofy Getaways. I knew I was organized, offered great customer service, and had a passion to learn and help others.
Why Did You Join Goofy Getaways?
As I was delving into my love of Disney as an adult, I'd worked with a couple of travel advisors and been disappointed in their service — I literally had to contact one agent multiple times begging them to submit my final payment! Then I received a quote from Kelly Fales with Goofy Getaways. I was so impressed that I started learning more about the agency. A few months later, they opened hiring and I applied. Our local market was oversaturated at the time, so I had to wait over six months to join Goofy Getaways — but I knew this was the right place for me. I officially became an advisor in June 2018 and was able to make it my full-time job starting in 2021.
What's Your Favorite Type of Trip to Plan?
First-time RunDisney guests! I love the RunDisney community, Walt Disney World, and fitness, so getting to bring all of those things together to help a client have their best RunDisney experience is the best. I provide all my normal WDW tips but add in a lot more RunDisney-specific information so these athletes can relax and just enjoy the magical miles.
Tell Us About One of the Biggest Travel Mistakes You've Made
Trying to do too much — being too planned out. I used to have almost every moment planned when I visited the parks and would try to do all the things. It was exhausting, and honestly not very magical sometimes. I've learned to focus on my top priorities and leave flexibility in every trip, no matter the destination, because that's where the magic happens.
What's Your Favorite Part of Helping Your Clients Plan Trips?
Answering their questions, talking with them about their destination, and sharing tips they might not have heard before — and then seeing photos from their trips when they use those tips.
I want my clients to contact me and ask questions, so I can make sure they have the right information, personalized for their family. I'll always offer tips and advice in a way that lets them feel empowered to make their own decision, and I think it surprises people sometimes when I tell them that a certain add-on might not be right for them. But I'd rather be honest, because I want my clients to have their best experience — not the experience some stranger on Facebook had five years ago with a completely different group.
What's the Hardest Part of Your Job?
Working without pay. I don't charge fees, which means I'm not paid until after a client travels — and they actually have to book with me for me to receive that pay. That means every quote that doesn't result in a booking, or every trip that gets cancelled, is work I do with no pay. Even when a client does travel, if we're planning their trip 6, 12, or 18+ months out, I'm working without pay the entire time, until after their travel is complete and the agency is paid. So it can be a lot of hours without a paycheck.
If You Could Give One Piece of Advice to Any Traveler, What Would It Be?
Take the trip YOU want — not the one someone else is telling you to take. Stop asking strangers on Facebook what their favorite dining experience was without asking why it was their favorite. That's a big difference when you work with an advisor: I can tell you my personal favorites if you really want, but I rarely do. Instead, I'll ask what type of food and experiences your party enjoys, whether you have any allergies, where you're headed — and use that to give suggestions that fit YOUR trip.
